Today I want to share with you the Utah Co-op. Located at 4892 S Commerce drive (300 West )in Murray. The Utah Co-op is a great shopping option in the area! They are open Thursday 11-2pm, Friday 11-6pm, and Saturday 11-6pm. They also appear to have special packages available for pick-up on Wednesday and Sunday.

This co-op offers deli style meats, breads, and about 28 varieties of cheese. They try to offer lots of Utah products at great prices so that they can support local businesses as well as help Utah families save on their grocery needs.

They have diapers, some clothing, dairy products, frozen foods and more! They are preparing to be able to offer some medications for the cold/flu season. A lot of the food products are organic.

Don't think that this is just a bunch of expired or damaged goods. The Utah Co-op has great quality products.

The website offers a few items that you can buy but to know what all they really are offering you need to stop in!

The cucumbers and dill are for making pickles. It's a recipe from my husband's uncle that has been in their family for awhile. Things have been so chaotic around our house the last few weeks that we've been relying on quick dinners of canned soup several times a week and have put a pretty big dent in our supply. Now, before you go thinking I'm crazy, I got the soup at two different stores, so as to leave plenty for everyone else. I got more than I normally would so that I could have some to donate to the food bank with all the food drives that will be coming up over the next few weeks.

Bountiful baskets is a produce co-op currently serving Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Washington and Wyoming. In many cities each Saturday morning you can pick up a "basket" of produce from a designated location.

You pay $15/basket (plus a 1.50 handling fee - per transaction), on their website, and receive approximately $30-50 worth of fruits and vegetables. You don't get to choose what fruits and vegetables you receive, but you will get a pretty good variety. On a recent basket purchase this is what I was given: honeydew, cabbage, apples, butternut squash, grapes, plums, nectarines, corn, bananas and more!

The quality of the produce is usually excellent, although there have been a few problems in the past. The produce is purchased through a large food distributor that sells produce to local restaurants and grocery stores. Just go to their website BountifulBaskets.org to learn more and purchase a basket. You do not have to commit to purchasing a basket every time - you just purchase one on the week you want to. You can also volunteer to help out in your area.

There are also usually additional items you can add on. In my home we love the 9-Grain Bread and the Tortillas.

The website opens for Utah at 8pm on Monday night. The deadline to purchase a basket for this Saturday (9/18/09) is Tuesday (9/14/09) at 10:00 p.m. Most sites sell out fast though!

There are several cooperative food purchasing options available in Utah.

Purchasing food items through a co-op is a great way to save money on your groceries. A food co-op is a group of people who pool their resources to get what they need. Buy buying together participants pay discounted bulk pricing.

I will be sharing several Utah co-op options in the coming days, but today I want to focus on The Community Food Co-op of Utah.

Each month, members pre-order their groceries. They are able to order as many shared as they would like and there is no monthly commitment. This particular co-op prides itself in providing most of their food items from local farmers and businesses.

There are several distribution sites across the Wasatch Front. This month the ordering deadline is September 10th and then the pick up date is September 25th.
